Antiqued copper and seashell pearl earrings

£34.00

Product Code: 25103f

Stock Level: 1

Entirely hand crafted antiqued copper earrings, featuring a pair of olive green seashell pearls, hung below with flower textured oval hand crafted copper charms.

The oval charms have been hand made from copper clay, impressed with a flower texture and later highly polished and antiqued to highlight the pattern.  The ovals hang and move freely at the bottom of double wire wrapped drops.

Seashell pearls are manufactured pearls using pearl shells for a base bead covered with a substance using the nacre of the mother of pearl.  So that you get a faux pearl with the same weight, feel and textures as a natural pearl, but a high quality finished pearl at a tiny fraction of the price of a natural pearl of the same size.

The copper has been antiqued to enhance the textures and patterns and all cut ends have been filed and polished smooth for your comfort.

What is copper clay?

Copper clay is a clay like medium made from tiny particles of copper (other metals are available too, I also work in bronze), combined with an organic binder and made into a pliable clay or paste with water. After working with the clay-like medium to form the article, it is thoroughly dried to remove all of the water, the shape is then further refined and then fired at high temperature in a kiln to both burn off the binders and to cause the copper particles to fuse together as solid metal. Whilst the medium makes it possible to achieve things not possible with other metal forms, it is still quite time-consuming and there are several stages to achieving a nice finish.

Size:

The earrings drop 47mm (1.85") overall from the top of the straight drop earwires and hang 10mm (0.4") at their widest in wear.
