Unique hand sculpted garden trellis pendant in antiqued copper. Asymmetrically hung rectangular pendant on chain featuring an interwoven garden trellis design, festooned with vines and tendrils and lots of tiny leaves.
I was looking at a trellised section of my garden and the thick covering of varied vegetation largely covering it and wondered if I could emulate the texture and layers of it in metal and this idea took shape.
The pendant has an irregular rectangular base covered with an interwoven trellis, to which I've added curly dimensional tendrils and lots of tiny leaves and balls of solid copper. It is set with a single citrine coloured cubic zirconia gemstone. The bail, allowing it to hang from one corner, is a triple loop of copper also decorated with leaves and balls which continues over the loop to the back side and top edges of the pendant.
On extensive pieces of this nature, I like to make the back pretty too and the back has been textured with a wood grain effect and is further decorated with a curly tendril and more leaves. You can see the back and further views in the additional images above.
This unique piece has been entirely hand sculpted and is not made from a mold. Each element has been created individually by me and is added to the design one at a time using fine tweezers and a magnifier lamp. It is time consuming careful work and this is reflected in the price.
Size:
The pendant hangs 47mm (1.85") overall from the chain and is around 42mm (1.65") at its widest in wear. The bottom widest end of the rectangular pendant is 30mm (1.2"). The pendant panel is 6mm (¼") at its thickest.
I suggest two chain lengths:
I would suggest that the pendant could either be worn at the throat within the neckline of clothing, or longer over the top of a garment. To this end I will supply the pendant with two chains - one for each type of wear.
I would suggest a finer chain something in the area of 18" long and a heavier matching chain (as shown in the photographs) around 30" - but please do specify your own preferences in the comment box during checkout. The chains will be a really nice quality antiqued copper belcher (rollo) chain which fastens with my own hand crafted hook and loop clasp. If you would prefer a leather thong or cord for the shorter version, that could be done too, please see a suggested alternative in the additional photographs.
What is copper clay:
Copper clay is a clay like medium made from tiny particles of copper, combined with an organic binder and made into a pliable clay or paste with water. After working with the clay-like medium to form the article, it is thoroughly dried to remove all of the water, the shape is further refined and then fired at very high temperature in a kiln to both burn off the binders and to cause the copper particles to fuse together as solid metal.
