Sterling silver molten nugget earrings

Perfect everyday, go-with-anything, Sterling silver earrings, each featuring a solid molten nugget or pebble of Sterling silver.  Each shiny pebble is attached to a small shaped integral earwire, making them comfortable for unobtrusive all-day wear.  A totally contemporary, yet timeless design that will give you many years of service.

The idea for these earrings was borne from my own desire for something simple that won't get ensnaired with my long hair, spectacles and MP3 player earbuds.  I started off wanting some plain studs, but decided that a simple hook to drop them a little below the earlobe was more flattering.  Mine are a fraction smaller than the pair shown, but I can wear them all day without even knowing that they're in.  The perfect pair to reach for when you don't have something to directly match your necklace or other silver jewellery.

They're a solid molten pebble of Sterling silver and the melting process has given rise to a delicate hint of reticulation on the surface.  Reticulation is a surface wrinkle created by repeatedly heating to almost melting point and then rapidly cooling silver, which causes unpredictable and gorgeous textures on the surface.  I had intended to polish these back to a smooth shine, but decided that I loved the surface texture just as it is, so I've polished them to a shine without smoothing the texture.

Because of the weight of the nuggets, I wanted to ensure a good secure back and the earwire has been attached by a hammered coil of silver which makes the backs as decorative as the front.  See [+] More Images for photographs of the backs.

They hang 18mm (0.7") overall from the top of the earwire and the nuggets of silver are approximately 7mm (0.3") in diameter.
