Antiqued copper earrings with hand crafted oval charms, imprinted with a flower texture and twisted to catch the light, hanging from long feature oval scroll ended earwires.
The twisted oval flower charms have been hand made from copper clay, impressed with a flower texture, cut and hand formed and later highly polished and antiqued to form the pattern. The oval shape has been reflected in the long drop feature earwires, hammered at the charm end into a little tight scroll.
What is copper clay / precious metal clay?
Copper clay is a clay like medium made from tiny particles of copper (other metals are available too), combined with an organic binder and made into a pliable clay or paste with water. After working with the clay-like medium to form the article, it is thoroughly dried to remove all of the water, the shape is then further refined and then fired at high temperature to both burn off the binders and to cause the copper particles to fuse together as solid metal. Whilst the medium makes it possible to achieve things not possible with other metal forms, it is still quite time-consuming and there are several stages to achieving a nice finish.
The earrings drop 55m (2.15") overall from the top of the oval earwires and hang 11mm (0.45") wide in wear. The ovals are each approximately 20mm (0.8") long. The piercing end of the earwire has been rounded and polished for your comfort.
Please note that these earrings are a design that I re-make, so you won't get the pair shown in the photograph. There will be modest variation in the placement of the pattern on the charms and the degree of twist and shaping in those pieces, as is the nature of something that is individually hand crafted. The charms are however always placed in matching pairs.
